“I have noticed many parallels between dance and painting and continue to learn from their intersections.”

Hi, I’m Haley Dimeck!

Welcome to my inner creative world!

I have dreamt of becoming a successful visual artist from a young age. Having many passions and a strong connection to movement, I decided to pursue dance. Dance and its expressive physicality has always been a powerful outlet in my life. It’s helped me tremendously with finding the strength to move through challenging times.

I went on to graduate from Dance Arts Institute in 2020 and am now a contemporary dancer, choreographer and teacher.

It was at the start of the pandemic when I found a rekindled relationship with movement on a canvas. The addition of this whole other form of visual art in my life has not only brought me joy; it has also enhanced my artistic practice and point of view. For instance, I like to think of a blank canvas as an empty stage. As well, the more I connect to freedom when paining and allowing creativity to flow, the more freedom I feel in my body while dancing. I have noticed many parallels between dance and painting and continue to learn from their intersections.

In both forms, I try to make it about the process; which is a constant negotiation of how much to control vs how much to let go. I have undergone rigorous dance training that came with a feeling of seriousness - yet still have had to find space for freedom and play. I’ve found this journey to be even more relevant with painting. It’s so easy to want to control, or believe the product must come from struggle. Play and freedom is such an important part of art - especially as this is the emotion I want to capture.

I am also inspired by movement patterns in nature and connecting to the natural rhythms all around us.

I paint as an act of self love, through practicing to trust my intuition and accept what creations choose to come out.

I paint to feel and deviate from over intellectualizing.

I paint to make some sort of sense to life’s chaos. Rather than struggling to put every feeling into words, it all comes out on the canvas - a conduit for something more beautiful.

Check out this interview to learn more about my process. I talk about imposter syndrome, how painting has reconnected me to personal self expression, and more.
